  • The Dining Room
    5pm-9pm Thursday-Monday
Communal dining is a quintessential human experience – and it would be a pity and a waste of an opportunity to eat badly. With that understanding, we simply must serve great food. In-season, locally sourced with quality ingredients, and impeccably prepared – for lunch and dinner. We'll be a gathering place for the community and guests in a fresh and new space that honors the legacy of the Lodge, while tantalizing the palette with flavors that celebrate the bounty that the area has to offer – from lush produce to the freshest catch. We aim to offer fair and approachable pricing – inviting locals regularly and inspiring visitors to make the trip – and to serve meals with the warmth and care of being in someone's home.

The General Store

The General Store at the Lodge is meant to serve as exactly that: a delightful and convenient shop to pick up essential supplies and sundries that help to make people's time at Sea Ranch enjoyable and memorable. From outdoor essentials to take on your day trip on the coast to keepsakes for those just passing through, the General Store will be a space to celebrate and support our local makers, and a place for all visitors to find great books and products that reflect the important history of The Sea Ranch and its surrounding areas.

Gatherings

This coast has long been a wonderful place for gathering and creating. The majestic beauty and architectural significance of The Sea Ranch lends to a lot more than just a stunning backdrop. With 12 acres of land on our meadow with unbeatable views of the Pacific, unique character of the north coast, and non-elitist aura, The Sea Ranch makes for a memorable setting for any type of gathering. Event space is now bookable for 2022.

Living lightly on the land
line drawing

"Because of reaching for a view, or because the wind needs to be blocked. Something about the environment has informed the geometry."

–Donlyn Lyndon, Architect

The visionary Al Boeke, architect, assembled a stellar group of architects and design professionals. For prototype buildings the architectural firm of Moore, Lyndon, Turnbull, and Whitaker was hired to design Condominium One along the bluffs and architect Joseph Esherick to design a cluster of houses nestled in a hedgerow. Lawrence Halprin, landscape architect, studied the topography, weather, and vegetation that inspired the original master plan. His vision was based largely on the historical and ecological community.

The original designers evolved a concept of dynamic conservation of 'living lightly on the land.' A covenant would enforce stewardship of natural resources through an owners’ association of residents who felt an instinctive relationship with the environment.

Meant to be experienced as much as to be spelled out, the concept of 'living lightly on the land' starts with respect for nature. Each landscape element should be recognized and nurtured, reinforcing natural forms and scale. The specific site provides the identity, establishing a 'territorial partnership' with any structure placed within it, not upon it. Building materials should be drawn from nature: rough and simple.
